Self Reflection

Sociopath by Patric Gagne is a memoir detailing Patric’s life and self-reflection as a diagnosed sociopath.

Growing up, Patric’s lack of feelings and frustration with being misunderstood often resulted in a misbehavior. This pattern persisted into adulthood, most often resulting in theft or breaking into people’s homes.

A college psychology course sparked Patric’s interest in better understanding herself. This eventually led to her decision to leave her father’s music production business to help others.

Through the book, Patric’s various relationships are explored (family, friends, boyfriend). Her candidness about her diagnosis created unique dynamics with others.

I’ll admit that I read this book expecting to be shocked with horrifying behavior. Rather, Patric’s conversational tone revealed her internal struggles and acknowledgment of her actions. At times the sentiments were a bit repetitive, but overall very interesting to understand.
